The Honorable Greg Abbott Governor’s Office

P.O. Box 12428 Austin, Teas 78711

Re: Educators as a priority group for COVID-19 vaccines

Dear Governor Abbott, The 41 school districts that comprise the Texas School Alliance represent over 2 million Texas public school children are greatly appreciative of your diligent efforts in protecting Texans during this pandemic.

As we approach the distribution of the first Covid-19 vaccines we would hope that Texas teachers would be considered as a priority group in the vaccination process. The front line medical workers and older Texans in residential facilities certainly are the first priority, but if doses are available for Texas teachers in the initial group or in the second phase it would be a great asset in keeping the teachers in Texas schools actively engaged in teaching for the coming months. We appreciate your efforts and the work of your task force and medical advisors. Our schools will continue to work diligently to provide quality instruction for students in this difficult time.

Thank you again for your leadership in this unprecedented health crisis. We look forward to the good work we will undertake together in the coming years.

Sincerely, Dr. Roland Hernandez,

President, Texas School Alliance

Superintendent, Corpus Christi ISD
